Why visit Famagusta city?

Famagusta (Gazimagusa) is a large walled city in North Cyprus that is unlike anything else. Gazimagusa’s fortunes altered abruptly in the 14th century, following the Ottoman raid on the city when it was under Genoese control. When the Turkish invasion occurred in 1974, the city’s extremely attractive Varosia (Maras) beach and hotel strip were locked off behind barbed wire. Famagusta is still a fairly large city, and despite the ghostly atmosphere created by distant crumbling buildings, there is something quite appealing about this place, such as its ancient ramparts and archaeological sites, large harbour front, and understated, relaxed tourism scenes.

Famagusta, on the other hand, is still a fairly large city, and despite the ghostly atmosphere created by distant crumbling buildings, there is something quite appealing about it, such as its ancient ramparts and archaeological sites, large harbour front, and understated, relaxed tourism scene, which is significantly quieter than that of nearby Ayia Napa.
